Copper-alloy Roman penannular brooch, missing its pin (c. 25 BC - AD 100). The brooch frame is oval-sectioned with pinched terminals - i.e., both ends are folded back on themselves, and decorated on the upper face by vertical grooves. The object is dark brown in colour. It is 34.63mm in length, 31.48mm in width and 4.73mm in thickness. It weighs 5.23g.
Hattatt (Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, 128-9) dates this type of brooch to the 1st century AD, classifying it as type D.
