Post Medieval copper alloy key probably for a barrel tap. There is a projecting tag near the wards which would be unusual for a barrel tap key so the possibility exists that it may have had some other function, for example, winding a clockwork mechanism. It has an oval bow. The terminal at the end of the shank has a small lengthways rectangular flange on either side and short projecting tab at the end that is curved back at an angle to the shank. A post-Medieval copper-alloy clock key. The flat-sectioned bow comprises two loops: the larger, oval, loop is at the bottom, with a drop-shaped extension above. Both sides of the bow have been incised to create the impression of a pair of entwined serpents whose open mouths meet at the base. A double moulded collar marks the start of the oval-sectioned stem, which has a hollow tip. Two forward-facing prongs would have made up the bit. The length is 47mm, the width is 27mm. A copper-alloy barrel tap key of late Post-Medieval date. The oval bow has a rectangular cross-section. The terminal at the end of the shank expands to form a triangular cross-section with a small rectangular projection from the centre of one side of the triangle. This terminal has a circular hollow centre. See NLM-DFA6B4, DEV-03BC84, NLM314, PUBLIC-07BAF1. The length is 62 mm, width is 38mm and the weight 15.72g .
