Cast cu-alloy chateleine or purse bar dating from the 18th century. The purse bar is complete, but the the semi-circular bar is missing except for the two terminals which are still attached to either side of the purse bar. The purse bar is not a solid bar, but is composed of two loops with scrollworks either end and central scallop or palmette ornament. These floral/scrollwork ornaments are typical of 18th and early 19th century metalwork.

Shackle from a chatelaine, the bar being removable to allow keys to be attached/detached dating to the 18th or early 19th century AD. A chatelaine is a decorative belt hook or clasp worn at the waist with a series of chains suspended from it. Each chain is mounted with a useful household appendage such as scissors, thinmbles, watch, keys, household seal etc. Chatelaines were worn by many housekeepers in the 19th century.
