Medieval silver brooch formed of four crescents joned together with three shields which are keyed for enamel. The shields are decorative rather than heraldic. A fourth space is left vacant for the attachment of the pin which may have borne a fourth shield to complete the composition. The pin is absent. The brooch dates from c1300 to c1400 AD.
Length 23mm and width 21.5mm.

A Scottish quarter thisle merk of James VI of Scotland 1601-1604. The reverse is a thistle which is the symbol for James. On the obverse is a square shield with rampant lion. The inscription is IACOBVS.6.D.G.R.SCOTORVM on the obverse and REGEM IOVA PROTEGIT on the reverse. The diameter is 20mm and the weight is 1.02g. Spink 5499.
