All are official English silver coins, and will thus have a silver content of 92.5% fine metal – the sterling standard. A summary list of the coins follows (a more detailed catalogue is attached to this report).
1 groat and 1 penny of Edward III, 4th Coinage (1351-77); 3 pennies of the mid or late 14th century, details uncertain;
1 groat and 6 pennies of Henry V (1413-22); 9 groats; 3 halfgroats; 1 penny and 2 halfpennies of Henry VI, Annulet issue (1422-7)
These coins are evidently a single group of material deposited on one occasion in the mid 1420s. The presence of older coins from the 14th century in the currency of Lancastrian England is well attested from many hoards, while the dominance of the Calais issues of Henry VI is a well-known phenomenon of the 1420s-50s. The coins are a range of the silver coinage of the country at this time, from the fourpenny groat to the halfpenny, lacking only the farthing. The high-value gold coinage is absent. The total face value of the group when deposited was 5 shillings and 2 pence, a sum which was equivalent to something like £50-£100.

2006 T502 - addenda to 2006 T153
I have examined two coins reported found in October 2006 on the site of a find of 28 coins made earlier in the year and listed in a report I made dated 19 July 2006. The two new finds are as follows:
1. Silver groat, Henry VI, Annulet issue (1422-7), Calais mint, wt: 3.78g
2. Silver penny, York mint, probably 14th century but details uncertain, wt: 0.89g (This coin is heavily clipped, making the name of the issuing king illegible; it has unusual design features and will need further work to enable a more precise identification; however this does not need to hold up the Treasure process.)
Both coins are of good silver and appear to correspond to those previously found on the site, which consisted of 2 halfpennies, 12 pennies, 3 halfgroats and 11 groats, ranging from Edward I to Henry VI’s Annulet coinage. The penny appears to have been clipped down to the weight standard introduced in 1412, as would be expected for a coin still in circulation after this date. On the reasonable assumption that they were part of the same original deposit, I would therefore suggest that this find fulfils the criteria of Treasure, according to the terms of the Act.
