Late 15th or early 16th century silver-gilt ring with much of the gilding worn off. The engraving is very crude. The hoop has spiralled bands enclosing either a geometrical pattern or imitation letters, defined by the hatching or more commonly by the spaces between the hatching. One side of the bezel depicts a figure which at first sight appears to be a naked female - possibly Eve? It may be a figure holding something pressed to their abdomen and chest, such as Saint Barbara holding a tower or another saint holding the emblem of martyrdom. The other side of the bezel depicts two space…

Very rough silver(?) signet ring with initials MM or WW. The silver was most probably debased since it has a yellow/dark greyish patina. On each side of the bezel, the ring is decorated with a four-petalled flower. There seems to be a modern (?) repair next to one of the side panels - possibly carried out in purer silver. Found before Treasure Act of 1996 It might possibly be a Southern German Type.

Part of a silver cruciform pendant. The bottom part is missing. One face is decorated with a variety of incised patterns and what look like tools. The other face is decorated again with some incised patterns and shapes and there is also and inscription running from bottom to top. The letters present are '...OMISE'. There is possibly an 'I' after the 'E' but this may actually be a line forming the edge of the suspension loop. ( The length given below is measured from the top of the suspension loop to the broken edge.)

Post-medieval coin hoard from Newton-with-Scales, Lancashire (2004T30) I have examined a group of coins reported found at Newton with Scales in January 2004. The coins are all official English issues of the traditional sterling standard, i.e. 92/5% fine metal. The coins consist of three denominations: 11 groats (fourpences) of Mary and Elizabeth Tudor, and a sixpence and 7 threepences of Elizabeth, amounting to a sum with a face value of five shillings and fivepence, which would be something like £20-30 in modern terms. The coins would certainly have circulated together, and the lim…
