Moulded handle sherd of a small Roman flagon. It dates to the second century. On the outer face there is a central ridge following the form of the handle. This sherd derives from where the handle base joins the vessel's body. The fabric is a pale orange colour and has occasional black grit inclusions.

Hand made rim sherd of a Roman Black Burnished coarse ware vessel. There is no decoration on this sherd. The outer face demonstrates the typical black slip finish while this has largely worn off the inner face. The fabric is a light grey colour and there are grit and mica inclusions. This sherd would have formed part of a flat rimmed bowl (reference used http://www.potsherd.uklinux.net).

Wheel spun rim sherd of a Black Burnished 2 coarse ware vessel. The fabric is a pale grey colour and has fine grit and mica inclusions. There is a characteristic black slip finish although this is very worn. The sherd is largely plain with two decorative ridges below the rim. Formed part of a shallow dish. Black Burnished 2 was associated with the military market along the northern frontier.

Two wheel thrown sherds from the same Roman flagon. The fabric is a medium grey colour with a slightly lighter grey heart. There are very few fine black grit inclusions. There is no decoration. One of these sherds shows the neck-handle join. Probably dates to the second century when flagons were associated with the military market. Handle/Neck sherd: Length: 46mm, Width: 35mm, Thickness: 6mm, Weight 17.96g. Adjoining sherd: Length: 32mm, Width: 30mm, Thickness: 8mm, Weight 8.71g.
