Complete copper alloy terret ring dating from the early Roman period, probably 1st-2nd century AD. The terret is formed of a large oval loop with an oval section and a much smaller integral rectangular loop below through which the strap would have run. The terret does not seem very worn: all surfaces are very smooth and there is not much wear on the inside of the oval ring. There are still remains of the casting flashes on the inside of the rectangular loop. Numerous similar terret rings have been recorded on the PAS database including: YORYM-C449B0, LVPL-77DAE2, WMID-7B27BE a…

Probably a cast copper-alloy harness fitting (toggler or dangler) dating from the Roman or medieval period, that is c. AD43-1500. The item is extremely worn and all surfaces are very smooth. It is, however, in very good condition. It appears to be a tear-shaped dangler or toggle, possibly with a moulded teardrop or petal at the bottom which is why it was thought that it may be a Roman-British dangler or toggle. The top of the loop is extremely worn with evidence of metal-on-metal wear clearly visible as the top of the loop is worn thin and there are now grooves of wear on the inside.

Damaged cast copper alloy harness fitting dating from the Roman period, that is the 1st-4th century AD. The harness fitting is a terret ring which is composed of an oval ring with circular cross-section and an off-set rectangular loop at the bottom. While the rectangular loop is complete, the larger oval is damaged and part of it is missing. It is likely that it has been worn thin through abrasion by reins or other leather straps until it snapped. Both ends of the break are worn thin and pointy.

Complete copper alloy terret ring dating from the early Roman period, probably 1st-2nd century AD. The terret is formed of a large oval loop with an oval section and a much smaller integral semi-circular loop below through which the strap would have run. There is a moulded collar around the bottom of the larger loop, separating it from the smaller loop. The larger loop is oval with a circular cross-section all around but the top is much thinner than the bottom of the ring. This might indicate some wear from the leather rein or strap that ran through it. Numerous similar terret r…

Fragment of a copper alloy terret ring dating from the early Roman period, probably 1st-2nd century AD. Only the bottom quarter of the terret survives. The upper part of the loop is broken off and it is uncertain whether this may have been a plain or possibly a lipped or knobbed terret. The two mouldings at the base of the arms survive with some damage and the central bottom section does, too. Whilst the surviving arms of the loop have a circular cross section, the bottom section is flat and has a rectangular cross section. It is tapers to a flat point at the bottom.

A copper alloy terret ring, probably of the Roman period. The ring is oval in shape with faceted faces around the radius, which means that the ring is almost diamond shaped in section. Under the ring is a an oval 'skirt', although very narrow and not  the usual wider skirt associated with these artefacts. This skirt is decorated with notches around the edge. Under this is a rectangular. mount with a rectangular central hole. Lewis in LPFG Datasheet 6 classifies these as being Continental in origin. Dimensions: 38mm long and 35mm wide, it weighs 29g
