A lead weight spindle whorl (or possibly net sinker or trap weight) of conical shape. The spindle whorl is 29mm in diameter with a central perforation that is 9mm in diameter. If decorated, the decoration is hard to make out: it probably consisted of random lines in relief on the diagonal surface. It has been noted that the weight of a spindle whorl is demonstrative of the thickness of yarn produced, with lighter spindle whorls (3 - 5 grams) being used for spinning cotton and the heavier ones (30 - 35 grams) for spinning wool (Margeson 1993, page 184). A lead object, probably a weight. It has two circular faces one of which is flat and has two incised lines and an indented dot in the center, the second face is slightly concave. The first face (diameter 15mm) tapers out to the larger face (diameter 22mm)and the circumference is rough with raised vertical lines running from one face to the other.

Small late 8th/early 9th century Viking lead weight into which has been inserted a piece of Irish, Scottish or Pictish metalwork of an 'Insular Art' style. While the weight itself was made from cast lead, the piece of inserted metalwork was made from cast cu-alloy which was subsequently gilded (small fragments of gilding remain in the grooves of the carved decoration). The decoration of the cu-alloy inlaid piece is fragmentary and seems to have been part of an ornamental interlacing, probably floral scrollwork border with a thinner, hatched border underneath.

Small trade weight of cast copper alloy. Depicts inscription WIV (William 4th) beneath a crown with a possible provincial mark WK beneath. The W may indicate 'Wiltshire' but it is unclear what the K represents. William 4th reigned from 1830-1837 therefore the weight was cast in this period and follows the introduction of the 1826 'Imperial Standards' act (Bailey 2000 page 43).

Small cast lead rectangular Viking weight dating from 800 to 1100 AD. The upper surface has been decorated with a thin openwork copper-alloy plate; gilding survives in the grooves of the decoration. The design is unclear, but may represent two interlacing animals, perhaps birds seen in profile. A lead plano-convex spindle whorl. The whorl is crudely made and decorated with several lines criss-crossing each other. The decoration on both sides is very similar. It has been noted that the weight of a spindle whorl is demonstrative of the thickness of yarn produced, with lighter spindle whorls (3 - 5 grams) being used for spinning cotton and the heavier ones (30 - 35 grams) for spinning wool (Margeson 1993, page 184). This example weighs 30.16 grams, so it seems likely that it would have been used to spin a lighter material.

An 18th century post-medieval trade weight. Closest parallel is an Exeter trade weight from the 18th century but it is lacking the three R's. The weight is of cast copper-alloy and the only depicting feature is that of three R's in a triangular placement around the centre ring above these R's are X marks in also a triangular placement.

Small lead bead or strap junction. It is circular in shape, but rectangular in cross-section, about 7mm high. The On the obverse, the underlying perforations for the straps/bands were repeated in a moulded the decoration. The location of the perforations can also be seen from the underside, but there is no additional moulded decoration. A more practical use for an item like this could have been as net sinker.

Flat circular cast cu-alloy lead wight of James I (1603-1625) or, less likely, James II (1685-88). It is stamped with a crowned 'I' for James I or II, the sword of St Paul (mark of the city of London) and a ewer. Weighing 12.66g, it was probably a 1/2oz weight.

Double-conical lead weight with central vertical perforation, ca. 9mm wide. The weight is decorated in high-relief on both sides: while one surface displays a six pointed star with raised dots between the spikes of the star, the other shows a very crude pattern of alternating lines and dots. This kind of lead weight is a very frequent metal-detecting find, especially on ploughed and pasture land.
