Cast lead-alloy pilgrim's souvenir or ampulla dating from the later medieval period, i.e. c. 15th-16th century. The ampulla is complete with a circular main body and a funnel/triangular-shaped neck and top. The ampulla carries moulded decoration: an elaborate fleur-de-lis on one side and a crowned (?)flower with stylised lateral foliage on the other side. These motifs are partially obscured by a near-central, neat circular hole, apparently pierced from each side in turn.

Pewter 'horn book' with letters W, X, Y and Z in relief above a grid pattern. There are fragments of the letters Q, R, S, T and V above, separated by a horizontal line from the letters below. Full-size hornbooks (of wood and horn or mica) were used as teaching aids, but it seems likely that small lead versions were toys; most seem to be 17th-century in date (Lewis 2012, 98-101).

Top part of a clicker cast in lead alloy. This is rectangular with rounded corners and a right-angled flange around one end, which extends for about one third the length. The top is moulded with frog (viewed from above). Identified by Jim Halliday. Post-medieval, probably C19th/early C20th. An exact parallel was found at Hintlesham, Suffolk and reported to the PAS, Find ID SF10571. An example bearing a male figure was found in Lancashire (E83DD3).

Medieval cast lead perforated circular spindle whorl, biconical with a different decorative pattern on each face comprised of relief lines and pellets. The whorl has a circular perforation through the centre. The diameter is 32mm and the weight 39.18g. Similar spindle whorls have been found in medieval contexts including at Codnor Castle, Derbyshire; at the Austin Friary in Leicester (Mellor and Pearce, 1981) and the deserted medieval village of Thrislington (topsoil find; Austin 1989, 137, fig. 58.2).

A cast lead object, probably a medieval spindle whorl. It is flat or slightly sunken on one face and slightly domed on the other; the basic shape is sub-circular with a perforation running through the centre. The weight is very corroded but appears to have been decorated with raised but rather indistinct circular pellets. The weight has a dull cream/light brown coloured surface. A complete lead alloy late early-medieval pendant dating probably to c. 900 - 1100. It is a flat circular disc with moulded decoration in relief to one face. At the centre is a raised circular boss with seven concentric rings surrounding it, the seventh flanking the edge of the object. Cast lead alloy token dating from the medieval or post-medieval, possibly the 15th-17th century AD. It is a circular uniface lead token with a plain reverse and a possibly inscribed obverse. The obverse is divided by a long cross into four quarters and there is a symbol or letter in each quarter. The whorl is decorated on both obverse and reverse. The reverse is decorated with a six-pointed star with hatching on the inside of the spikes and there are three small circlets between each point. A lead plano-convex spindle whorl. The whorl is crudely made and decorated with several lines criss-crossing each other. The decoration on both sides is very similar. It has been noted that the weight of a spindle whorl is demonstrative of the thickness of yarn produced, with lighter spindle whorls (3 - 5 grams) being used for spinning cotton and the heavier ones (30 - 35 grams) for spinning wool (Margeson 1993, page 184). This example weighs 30.16 grams, so it seems likely that it would have been used to spin a lighter material.

Cast lead-alloy scallop mount, gilded. Being a scallop it maybe have been an architectural element of, e.g. a church or another religious building or garden. It was probably mounted on a staff or similar, which is now broken off and missing. Much of the gilding is still intact, but lead casting was not very inspired since the casting seams are still visible around the mount.

Small lead bead or strap junction. It is circular in shape, but rectangular in cross-section, about 7mm high. The On the obverse, the underlying perforations for the straps/bands were repeated in a moulded the decoration. The location of the perforations can also be seen from the underside, but there is no additional moulded decoration. A more practical use for an item like this could have been as net sinker.
