Object type: STAMP
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Small cast cu-alloy stamp, probably dating from the late medieval or post-medieval period, ie. c. AD1500-1800. The body of the stamp is solid cast and of roughly tubular shape with an octagonal cross-section (probably for better grip). Both ends are oval/circular and display one moulded letter: a capital 'W' on one side and a capital 'E' on the other. The lettering is typical of that of some late medieval or post-medieval tokens or stamped lead items. A post-medieval date, however, seems more likely.

A lead alloy cup of uncertain function. It is circular with a slightly rounded base, with reasonably thin walls. The rim is slightly everted. One side has a split extending most of the way from the rim to the base. There is no material in it which probably suggests that it was a cup rather then a crucible, although some items like this have been listed on the database as bird feeders, see for example https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/1047543. As no function is identified, a wide date range has been allocated.
