A part of a silver half groat of Elizabeth 1st. It has been folded, and had broken along this fold line into approximatly half along the diamteer. It has alo been pierced with a neat, round hole, probably contemporaneously. It has also suffered possibly more modern damage, having been pierced with a square bladed implement, from the same side as the round hole was made. It is worn and details are difficult to ascertain. A complete copper alloy trade weight, one of a set that would have stacked. It is circular with a raised rim, and the weight would suggest that it is 1/2 ounce. Inside are the stamps of a laver or coffee pot, the inspection mark of the Worshipful Company of Founders, who controlled the lawful making of weights in London and for three miles around (Withers and Withers 2011, page 78). A small, domed copper alloy button with a hollow back, into which the shank, which is broken, is fixed. The face is decorated with a moulded, regular floral design, and has been gilded. The makers name is moulded around the edge on the rear of the button. A crucifix pendant with the hanging link. The cross is formed of a square sections, creating a cross shaped box. The front and back faces are slightly inset into this. On the front is the figure of Christ, clothed in a lion cloth, head hanging to the right with the left leg slightly flexed. A sub-square lead alloy gaming piece, token or possible weight. It is rhomboid in shape although it was probably intended to be square. At each corner is an upstanding 'knop' cutting the diagonal of the corner to about a quarter of its length. Running across the face from these are two parallel lines etched into the lead alloy. A copper alloy and gemstone seal matrix. The copper alloy frame is oval in plan and semicircular in section. The face has two parallel lines around the frame as decoration. The shoulder of the frame is decorated with oblique lines. Above this frame are two semicircular hoops. These are split, forming four arms which are monted on the frame with circular rolls. A cast lead alloy button. It is circular in outline and slightly domed. It has a pattern moulded into it. Around the circumference are four what may be stylised thistle heads, formed of a circle-within-circle with a triangular shape with dots filling it coming out from this. A copper alloy seal matrix. The base is approximately octagonal but appears almost circular from above, longer in one diameter than the other. From this base the seal rises and narrows to a minimum diameter of 2.03mm. It then widens and flattens to 5.72mm width. This top is triangular in shape and has a triangular central hole.
