"Read a Letter on the subject of some coins lately found in Lancashire. They were discovered by a Countryman in plowing, and were about the size of a sixpence but considerably thicker and of the purest metal. There were about twenty in number, of the reigns of Hadrianus, Antoninus Pius the Caesars &c.
No traces of ruins were discovered near the place where they were found, which till very lately was woodland."
Ms. Min. Soc. Ant., XXIII 1789-90), 481
The size of the coins indicates that they must have been denarii."
