Lead alloy object probably dating to the Roman period 70 - 410AD. The object may be a token or a die or mould used for a tesserae. The token is decorated on one side but the pattern is difficult to make out. The diameter is 32mm and the weight 26.33g.

Cast lead stud/disc. Irregular in form. Front face demonstrates a central pellet in relief with a surrounding circular form. The reverse is plain. Possibly a miss-cast token. The site of recovery of the object could suggest however that this object is Roman in date and could therefore be a lead pot mend. These were used to hold broken vessels together before glue. A hole would be drilled into a broken vessel along the line of the break and then molten lead poured through which would harden on cooling (Cuddeford 1994 page 51).
