A lead alloy artefact, probably part of a Post-medieval casting of small musket shot, dating from AD 1600 - 1900. It consists a narrow strip of lead, flat on the upper surface and with a narrow casting seam on the underside, from which depend the remains of six casting sprues. The spheroids are very small, each being 5mm in diameter, and were probably intended to be buckshot. A similar casting strip, also with quite small spheres, is recorded on the database at reference LEIC-6AF3CC. The length is 120mm, width is 16mm and the weight 70.49g. .

Lead musket ball. Cast ball with a flattened circumferential belt from set up and with slight longitudinal striations on that belt from gas erosion, both effects occurring at the moment of firing an unwadded projectile. The ball is flattened at one end relative to the evidence for its position in the gun barrel, probably from its inclusion at one end of a multiple load. The mass, at well over an ounce, suggests this to be for use with a smoothbore muzzle loading firearm of military specification. This is closer to the formal weight of a 17th-century musket ball, which was defined as 12…

Post-medieval lead musket balls complete with casting sprue probably dating to c. 1600-c. 1800. The regularity of these balls may suggest their industrial manufacture at an arsenal. The diameter is 14mm and the combined weight 55.55g. The weight suggests that they could have been used in a pistol (Harding 2012). Harding, D.F., 2012. Lead alloy ball from a Baker rifle. The dating 1801-1837AD. The diameter is 16mm and the weight 24.89g From the diameter and weight of this bullet, it appears to be a 0.625 (16 mm) bullet from an English Baker rifle type, originally the Pattern 1800 Infantry Rifle, but referred to since Victorian times as the Baker Rifle. The Baker rifle (officially known as the Infantry Rifle) was a flintlock rifle used by the Rifle regiments of the British Arny during the Napoleonic Wars. It was the first standard-issue, British-made rifle accepted by the British armed forces. The Baker Rifle was f…

Lead alloy musket ball difficult to date with any accuracy they could be as early as 1600 AD or as late as 1840 AD. The ball is impacted on one edge indicating that it has been fired or rammed. The diameter is 12mm and the weight 7.43g. The weight of the shot suggests it may have been meant for firing from a pistol, small carbine or buckshot given the size (Harding, 2012, Lead Shot of the English Civil War: a Radical Study). Over 800 balls of roughly the same size and weight have been found over a period of twenty years indicating a possible skirmish site.
