It has a round base and a conical top. The weight is close to the Scandinavian standard of 6 x 4.07g and it may also have been used as a weight. Similar gaming pieces are recorded on the database, for example LEIC-4CB466 and LEIC-4C0A56. They have been also been found at the Viking winter camp of AD 872-3 at Torksey (Hadley and Richards 2016, fig. 26) and are dated to the early medieval period. A lead alloy artefact that is probably an inkwell. It is a hollow cube in shape, the four sides are plain, as is the square base. In the open top, a three sided flat piece of lead has been inserted, forming a top with a smaller square opening in it. This has been fixed in place possibly with molten lead. One side has a deep scratch across it, another has a semi-circular piece missing for the base.
