A cast lead alloy button. It is circular in outline and slightly domed. It has a pattern moulded into it. Around the circumference are four what may be stylised thistle heads, formed of a circle-within-circle with a triangular shape with dots filling it coming out from this. Between these are stylised petals made of two arcs with a central leaf shape.There are larger dots around the circumference. Date range c1700 to c1900 AD. Diameter 30mm, thickness 4mm, weight 23.42g. Similar objects are illustrated in Bailey (2004: 83) see nos. 391-8 which are described as women's hem weights or curtain weights, and date to the 18th-20th centuries.

Post Medieval lead alloy shy cock in the shape of a cockerel. The flat figurine and it's thick oval base are a single cast piece. Shy cocks seem to have been a British phenomena that were popular from the late fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries. This one is unusual as it appears to be decorated on both sides.
