A very worn copper alloy token. On one face is a ring of chain like decoration which forms a dividing line round the token. Outside this is lettering which runs around the entire circumference, this is largely indistinguishable. Inside the circle is written THEIR PENNY 1672, with decorative, simple flowers underneath. On the other side is the same chain-like division again with lettering around the circumference. In the centre is a wide plain circular image, with another circle in the centre, across this is a broad line. What this represents is not easy to see.

Two worn copper alloy farming tokens. One shows a horse (or possibly a deer) standing, facing left, the obverse is too degraded to interpret. This is 15mm diameter. The second is slightly smaller at 13mm diameter. It shows either a set of loaded scales or a cross with heads below, depending on which way up it is held. The obverse may show a robed figure, although again it is degraded. This possible religious imagery may suggest that it is a church token or souvenir, rather than trade one. Tokens were popular methods of payment in the 17th to 19th centuries AD.

A small, silver token. It is overprinted and this obscures a lot of the detail. Apparent is the word PORT, and the letters M, M, F, cut by a larger curve or letter C. Although it is probably silver, it is not possible to determine its age and it is unlikely to be over 300 years old and therefore it does not qualify as Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.
Dimensions: 15mm long and 15mm wide, weighs 1.24g

A copper alloy anti-slavery 'halfpenny'. These were modelled on the ceramic tokens produced by Josiah Wedgewood as part of the abolitionist movement in the late 18th century. One face depicts a pair of clasped hands and the other a kneeling man, with chained hands raised in a plea. Although the first face is too worn to decipher fully it is likely to have the following legends around the circumference -
First face - MAY SLAVERY AND OPPRESSION CEASE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
Second face - AM I NOT A MAN AND A BROTHER?
Wedgewood produced his medallion from 1787 and the sl…

Modern copper alloy colliery workers token from the Towneley Colliery. The token is circular in plan with a suspension perforation at the apex. On the outer face there is an inscription within a circumferal beaded border which reads TOWNELEY COLLIERIES. It is probably why 441 is stamped on the back, albeit with the 1 at right angles to the 44. These are the colliery workers numbers. Dates to between c1933 and c1949 AD, when the Townel…

Post Medieval lead or lead alloy bifacial token. It is circular in plan. The overall decorative scheme is raised and possibly a debased imitation of a long cross coin. It has similarities with Powell types 3, 10, and 14. Obverse possibly depicts a debased portrait in a circular border and the reverse decoration resembles a cartwheel or the merged crosses of the Union flag in a circular border. Probably dates to between c1550 and c1800 AD.
The diameter is 20mm, weight 6.5g.
Similar examples, not necessarily bifacial, on the database include OXON-563164 and WMID-BDCCDD
