Two copper alloy possible polyhedral weight. They are basically a cylindrical shape but are faceted unevenly on all sides. All of the faces have a pattern of parallel lines on them. Their weight fits neither the Scandinavian nor Dublin Viking unit weight systems, inspite of this similar shaped weights have been found at various sites of the Viking Great Army camps, see Hadley and Richards (2021) and British Museum accession number 2006.1203.104, dated to 9th century AD. Such shapes are also seen on for example pin heads (BM 1985.1101.11…

A copper alloy object that could be an incomplete polyhedral multi-faceted pin Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) hair pin dating to the late 8th to the early 10th century AD or could relate to a later more modern object. It has a cuboid-faceted head very corroded and no decoration is discernible. Where the head joins the shaft there appears to be a collar consisting of a circumferential raised line. The shaft is not circular in cross-section and appears to have a square section which could indicate that it is later. The length is 18mm, the width is 9mm and the weight 2.18g.

Overall it has an even green patina, the incised lines have orange soil in them. It has a sheen to it and if made of lead this would be unusual, it is suspected though because of the weight that it is a lead alloy but with a greater proportion of another metal in it, hence designation as copper alloy. The weight falls between both the Scandinavian and Dublin Viking unit weight systems. Similar weights …

The other side has three 'globules' raised above the base, leaving one flat area, the globules and flat part all covering approximately a quarter of the diameter. It has an even brown patina. A cylindrical metal alloy bar with a pattern at either end. The pattern consists of a 'marigold' shape of eight equally spaced pointed petals. These are seen on bracelet terminals (Youngs, S. The Work of Angels, 25 and 26 page 44) of the early medieval period as well as on carved stone crosses and in manuscripts (but these are usually six pointed, not eight as is this example. The alloy, probably of copper, is particularly dense and this may have been a stamp used to pattern leather or similar, although it could equally be a gaming piece or weight, alt…

A possible lead alloy weight or gaming piece. It is irregular in shape, being triangular at the bottom but with a circular top half. The base is also not straight and is 'kinked' halfway along, although this may be as a result of damage and not deliberate. It is flat on the front and back faces. The base is not smooth but has what may be symbols etched into it. It is difficult to discern if all of these are damage or deliberate but the horseshoe shaped symbol is obviously deliberate, the possible rune next to it is not so clear-cut. This may have been for assay in some way, alternatively it could have been used as a gaming piece and the shape is to distinguish it.
