Two copper alloy possible polyhedral weight. They are basically a cylindrical shape but are faceted unevenly on all sides. All of the faces have a pattern of parallel lines on them. Their weight fits neither the Scandinavian nor Dublin Viking unit weight systems, inspite of this similar shaped weights have been found at various sites of the Viking Great Army camps, see Hadley and Richards (2021) and British Museum accession number 2006.1203.104, dated to 9th century AD. Such shapes are also seen on for example pin heads (BM 1985.1101.11…

A copper alloy object that could be an incomplete polyhedral multi-faceted pin Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) hair pin dating to the late 8th to the early 10th century AD or could relate to a later more modern object. It has a cuboid-faceted head very corroded and no decoration is discernible. Where the head joins the shaft there appears to be a collar consisting of a circumferential raised line. The shaft is not circular in cross-section and appears to have a square section which could indicate that it is later. The length is 18mm, the width is 9mm and the weight 2.18g.

A copper alloy possible polyhedral weight. It is basically a cylindrical shape but is faceted unevenly on all sides. Half of the faces have a pattern of parallel lines on them. Overall it has an even green patina, the incised lines have orange soil in them. It has a sheen to it and if made of lead this would be unusual, it is suspected though because of the weight that it is a lead alloy but with a greater proportion of another metal in it, hence designation as copper alloy. The weight falls between both the Scandinavian and Dublin Viking unit weight systems. Similar weights …

A cylindrical metal alloy bar with a pattern at either end. The pattern consists of a 'marigold' shape of eight equally spaced pointed petals. These are seen on bracelet terminals (Youngs, S. The Work of Angels, 25 and 26 page 44) of the early medieval period as well as on carved stone crosses and in manuscripts (but these are usually six pointed, not eight as is this example. The alloy, probably of copper, is particularly dense and this may have been a stamp used to pattern leather or similar, although it could equally be a gaming piece or weight, alt…

A gilded cast copper alloy pendant dating from the early medieval period, that is the 9th century AD.
The artefact survives almost complete, although it is a reworked object that does not survive in its original, larger, form. The fragment was broken off a larger object and shows signs of having been reworked into its current shape, which is probably that of a pendant. All edges are rough to the touch but the original break occurred at what is now the bottom of the pendant. The flat sides (top and sides) are smoother than the break and show possibly previous tinning. The current sh…
