An incomplete cast copper alloy pipe bowl from a toy whistle, of Post Medieval to Modern dating (1800 to 1900 AD). The pipe bowl is incomplete, missing parts of the sides. The pipe bowl has a pointed base. The sides of the pipe bowl have been decorated. This decoration comprises a line made of joining arches, running around the bowl at its mid point. Below the line, is a regularly spaced pattern of raised pellets. Above the line, the bowl is smooth, apart from a row of dots placed in the gaps of the line of arches. Post Medieval to Modern copper alloy, possibly brass, probable cannon shaped whistle. It could possibly be a toy cannon with a terminal touch hole rather then the more usual position atop the breech. In addition to its manufactured decoration it has the initials A L or G scratched onto near the breech. Probably dates to between c1750 and c1970 AD. The material and level of finish suggests the latter half of the age range. The length is 46mm, width 14mm, diameter 10mm, and the weight is 13.94g.

Ceramic bird whistle or flute dating from the Victorian period, probably 19th century. The whistle is almost complete. It is in the shape of a bird, but the head and feet and part of the tail are missing. It has a hollow body but a solid neck. There are sound holes in the bottom, the back and one at the front. The whistle/flute was made from brown glazed red earthenware.

A pewter hawking whistle of Post-Medieval (probably 18th century) date. The body is cylindrical, tapering slightly towards the bottom. There is a cylindrical, rounded extension at one end, possibly for an attachment loop. A raised ring at the top separates the body section from the thinner mouth-piece. A copper alloy tapered tube whistle of the 19th century. This style of whistle is also known as a Beaufort whistle. The main body of the whistle consists of a tapered copper alloy tube with sound holes on opposite sides towards the narrow end. The cap has some moulded decoration around the top of a raised rim and a (damaged) suspension loop attached directly to the centre of the cap, without a knop. A post-medieval lead alloy 'hawking' whistle (c. 1700-c. 1850). The whistle is incomplete. The object comprises three parts, with the curved plate soldered to underside of the mouth-piece and end section joined at an expanded sleeve. The casting seams are clearly discernible on both sections and there is no cast decoration. At the terminal is an incomplete suspension loop only the neck of which remains. Copper alloy whistle probably for hawking Post-medieval 1500 to 1800 AD. The whistle is circular in cross section. The mouth of the whistle is slight tapered and there is an oval half moon shaped opening just beneath the mouth. The base of the whistle is closed by a suspension loop. The body is decorated with a series of engraved lines in the form of creating a zig zag pattern. A number of whistles have been recorded by the PAS, however a direct parallel has not been found. A dark grey pewter hawking whistle. Cylindrical in shape with a tapering end and broken extension piece, possibly for an attachment loop. Small stone fragment, possibly the remains of a whetstone. Date uncertain. The surfaces are too worn and damaged to be abolutely certain that this was, indeed, an artefact. It may be natural. It is was a whetstone, the date range would be 2000BC-AD1900, as single stray finds of simple whetstones are notoriously difficult to date.

Whetstone pendant of uncertain date within the period c. 2150 BC - AD 1400. The object is square and tapers to a broken forked edge. The top of the object is pierced and demarcated from the rest of the object by horizontal grooves that run around the top and the bottom of the piercing. Vertical grooves run down the centre of each face. The piercing is wider at one end than the other. The object is formed from dark-grey stone. It is 51.44mm in length and 11.54mm in width. Probably a whetstone dating from the early medieval period. The object is roughly rectangular in shape and has a rectangular cross section. The surface on one side is rougher than on the other three sides which are very smooth. There are two parallel 'cuts' around the top part of the object which is where a string may have been attached to it. There is no evidence of a perforation.

A lead plano-convex spindle whorl. The whorl is crudely made and decorated with several lines criss-crossing each other. The decoration on both sides is very similar. It has been noted that the weight of a spindle whorl is demonstrative of the thickness of yarn produced, with lighter spindle whorls (3 - 5 grams) being used for spinning cotton and the heavier ones (30 - 35 grams) for spinning wool (Margeson 1993, page 184). This example weighs 30.16 grams, so it seems likely that it would have been used to spin a lighter material.
