One of the readers, Anthony Runge, writes: "... it dates from 1678, the year of the Popish plot. In that year, Sir Edmund Berry (Edmondbury) Gofrey, a magistrate, was strangle with his own cravat at the watergate of Somerset House. His body was hidden for a few days, then taken to Primrose Hill, at that time still in the countryside, and dumped in a ditch transfixed with his own sword. Copper alloy coin or medallion with a diameter of 36mm and a weight of 13.23g. This piece is incredibly worn. On the obverse there is a faint trace of a bust right which might have the features of Carausius (AD 286-93) - sadly this cannot be captured on a photograph. Although this might seem far-fetched, the British Museum has a medallion of Carausius which measures 38mm in diameter and weighs 13.21g.
