Small trade weight of cast copper alloy. Depicts inscription WIV (William 4th) beneath a crown with a possible provincial mark WK beneath. The W may indicate 'Wiltshire' but it is unclear what the K represents. William 4th reigned from 1830-1837 therefore the weight was cast in this period and follows the introduction of the 1826 'Imperial Standards' act (Bailey 2000 page 43).

This object may be a coin(?) weight, possibly of Oriental origin. It is the size of a medieval/post med. square coin weight and made from a reddish copper-alloy. Originally, it was probably square or rectangular, but the corners are smoothed down and the edges and surfaces are extremely worn. It appears, however, that the surfaces were decorated or inscribed with Arabic letters, possibly in a very ornate style, with dots and additional wavy lines between the letters.

Shield-shaped trade weights of this general type are believed to have been in use from the late 14th to at least the late 18th century. Lead shield-shaped weights of various qualities of workmanship and numerous designs have been in use over a long period of time. Lead weighs such as this were used to weigh goods under the averdepois system from 1390 in England and were used throughout the 15th century. It is likely that these weights represent a desire to standardize the trade weight system. They are found in denominations based on a pound of 16 ounces, which can be subdivided on…

A cast lead weight of Post-Medieval date, probably 16th-17th century. The upper face has a raised rim and the Roman numerals IIII stamped into it. It is thought this is meant to indicate 4 ounces and its weight would support this. The weight is marked with a 12-spoke sun above and below the IIII marking. The reverse side is completely flat with no distinguishing marks. Dimensions: upper diameter: 34mm, lower diameter: 36.8mm, height: 11.5mm, weight: 109mm.These types of weight are very hard to date when found out of context as they could have been used throughout many periods.

Post Medieval cast lead alloy, or lead, trade weight. This discus like weight appears to have been designed to be used suspended, possibly as a counterweight to grain bushels or wool bales. It has two official crown marks, the earlier appears to be for James I. These marks are on one side, along with the two holes that were cast into it. The reverse side is also domed, and the funnel shaped cavity's smaller hole is central. Dates to between 1603 and 1901 AD. The thickness is 26mm, diameter is 114mm.
