Small circular cast cu-alloy weight, probably dating from the early 18th century. The weight was part of a 'nest of weights' and has a small rim around the upper surface in which a small weight would have fitted. The weight itself would have sat in the heavier weight underneath. The upper surface is stamped with a crowned 'WR' which probably means WILLIAM REX which would date the weight to the early 18th century.

Small trade weight of cast copper alloy. Depicts inscription WIV (William 4th) beneath a crown with a possible provincial mark WK beneath. The W may indicate 'Wiltshire' but it is unclear what the K represents. William 4th reigned from 1830-1837 therefore the weight was cast in this period and follows the introduction of the 1826 'Imperial Standards' act (Bailey 2000 page 43).

Modern cast lead, or lead alloy spiked ring fishing weight. It is circular with a circular perforation running through the centre. The external sides are angled but the internal sides are broadly straight. There is a series of 8 flattened conical discs on either side. There are the remains of a trapped iron wire loop where the iron staining is. These weights were apparently designed for use in surf and are often used when crabbing. They are also used on occasion on modern hand looms, usually by hobbyists. Maximum external diameter of 39mm, thickness 17mm, and the central perforatio…

Cast copper alloy (probably brass) trade weight, with lead plugging, dating between c1830 and c1970AD. Diameter is 25mm. The stamps are difficult to read as they have been over struck. It appears to be a 1/2 ounce measure. The royal cypher marks are nearly illegible as the weight has been retested and the original mark overstruck, presumably when the lead pugging was added to the rear to correct the weight. The plugging should also have marks struck into them to prove the weight is officially corrected. Their absence may be due to ageing or the result of lead being removed by an unscr…

A cast copper alloy figurine of an eagle with outspread wings dating from AD 1725 - 1800. The eagle is portrayed with outstretched wings with its head turned to left; the head and body, including its underside, carry engraved details representing facial features and feathers; at the base of the figurine just above the legs of the eagle is an irregular breakage representing the remains of an attachment feature. An identical figurine can be seen as the handle on the lid of a mid 18th century kettle (Koper & Brons, Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam 1986, cat. no. 262, p188) thus confirming the susp…

Cast copper alloy unidentified object probably dating from the early modern period, that is the 18th or 19th century. The object is rectangular in shape with a flat back and 18 spikes on the inside. There are two rows of 'spikes' on each side, with a row of four on the outside and a row of five on the inside. It is undecorated, but all surfaces are very worn so it is unknown if it was decorated in the past. Its function is unknown, but the spikes may have held the object in place on a leather strap or harness.

Cast copper alloy miniature cannon, similar to naval guns of the later nineteenth century. Originally it would probably have been mounted on either a gun carriage or wheels. There is some damage to the muzzle, probably due to an explosion when it was fairly new. Many of these cannons were fired and are often found with exploded barrels from mis-fires. There are good parallels on the PAS database, SUSS-494CB2 is nearly identical and LIN-8FE5B6, LANCUM-440420, IOW-8B08B7 are very similar. The length is 52mm, the thickness is 19mm and the width is 24mm. The gun dates sometime between c17…

A lead alloy car of the early 20th century. The car modelled is a long bonneted low enclosed cabin sports car with long sweeping front wings. This type of car was popular in the 1930's and 1940's, seen in for example, the Hispano Suiza H6, or the Bugatti Atlantic, both of which were manufactured from 1938 onwards. The model is covered in a heavy white patina, and may have been lost soon after production, and may also have a very high lead content. Dimensions: 63mm long and 19mm wide

A cast lead alloy cat. It is a plump, contented cat in the seated position. The back of the model is quite crude although the features of the hip and leg are present, but the face is well moulded. It has been painted yellow. It seems to be a bred, domesticated cat and this is therefore probably a model of a twentieth century cat. The finder notes that the base is possibly damaged and it may have sat on a platform of some sort. Dimensions: It is 65mm high and 65mm wide and 200m deep, it weighs 102.10g
