Late or Early Post-Medieval cast silver dress-hook. It is composed of a lozenge-shaped plate cast in low relief, the outer edge showing 16 smaller circlets. There are 2-4 small knops surrounding each of the circlets (see image). The central flower which would have been attached with a rivet through the perforation in the centre is missing. The rivet, however, is still in place. It is kept in place by its split end on the reverse. On the obverse is displays a simple knop. Transverse bar and hook on reverse are still intact.

Cast lead-alloy pilgrim's souvenir or ampulla dating from the later medieval period, i.e. c. 15th-16th century. The ampulla is complete with a circular main body and a funnel/triangular-shaped neck and top. The ampulla carries moulded decoration: an elaborate fleur-de-lis on one side and a crowned (?)flower with stylised lateral foliage on the other side. These motifs are partially obscured by a near-central, neat circular hole, apparently pierced from each side in turn.

A complete circular flat-cylindrical cast lead-alloy object, possibly a spindle whorl dating from the later medieval period, i.e. 1400-1600. The lead weight is flat-cylindrical in cross-section with a flat base and flattish top. It seems to have been decorated with indentations on one side only. The lead weight is basic and has suffered corrosion. Lead weights like these are common finds, but only rarely from excavated contexts which is why date and origin are difficult to pinpoint. Decorated spindle whorls are very rare finds in excavations, but are often found by metal detectorists.…

The artefact was found by metal detector and analysed by Prof Elisabeth Okasha on 19th January 2012 at Lancaster City Museum; Prof John Hines has also seen an image and has advised that the inscription should not be considered runic. The remaining portion of the mount measures c 50 mm in length and c 20 mm at…

Almost complete cast cu-alloy two-part trebuchet or tumbrel-type folding coin balance dating from the medieval period, i.e. c. AD1200-1500. This type of balance for weighing individual coins was formed from two arms, which pivot in the middle allowing the balance to be opened into a cross shape to be used, or folded flat for storage (see attached image). The (when unfolded) horizontal arm included an integral pan and a (probably) acorn-shaped integral weight, now missing.
