A copper alloy harness pendant. It is a teardrop shape with pointed protrusions, there would have been seven in total, three on each side and one at the bottom. There is a longer protrusion where the pendant would have been fitted. It is quite degraded, with a green patina on one side and parts of the protrusions are missing. On the other face there is a concreted deposit, it is difficult to determine the nateure of this but it is possibly enamel.  Dimensions: 38mm long and 25mm wide, it weighs 7.208g

Cast cu-alloy medieval harness pendant dating from the 14th/15th century. The pendant is sixfoil-shaped with a suspension loop at the top. It is very likely that it was the central part of a two-piece harness pendant, similar to SF-4C12C3, but not as elaborately decorated. No traces of enamel or any kind of moulded decorated remain on obverse or reverse.

Medieval copper alloy shield shaped heraldic harness pendant. It is a Type I as classified by Ward Perkins. The pendant was hung by the now incomplete and integral sub-circular suspension loop set at 90° to the main body of the pendant. The outer face of the pendant is decorated with a diagonally hatched 'gules fretty' with labels over. There are four complete red-enamelled lozenge cells, plus incomplete cells around the pendant's outside edge. There is a remnant of red enamel, though this colour may possibly be the result of copper alloy corrosion in the presence of a glass. Each of…

Extremely worn enamelled cast copper alloy harness pendant dating from the medieval period, that is c. 14th century AD. It is extremely worn and very thin. The decoration can only be seen in corrosion products on the obverse surface. The reverse was probably undecorated. The loop at the top is worn away except for a fine, thin spike. It is composed of a quatrefoil plate with angular projections bearing an armorial device, the details of which are lost to corrosion but it appears to have contained a crowned capital letter W. Pendants of this type are seen as fourteenth century (Grif…

An complete but very worn medieval copper alloy harness pendant, dating to the period c. AD 1340-1400. The harness pendant comprises a quatrefoil with pointed knops projecting in between the lobes. An integrally cast suspension loop projects from the centre of the upper lobe, set at 90 degrees to the body of the pendant. This suspension loop is missing its upper curve due to worn breaks, so that the aperture is now left open. Decoration consists of a lion passant guardant left on a square red enamel field. A fleur de lys on a semicircular blue enamel field is placed in each of the l…

Copper alloy harness pendant dating from the 13th-14th century. It is heavily worn and both surfaces are abraded, especially the obverse. It is lozenge-shaped with a broken suspension loop at the top and it was decorated with an enamelled zoomorphic design, perhaps heraldic, possibly a wyvern, dragon or stylised bird. The surviving enamel appears to be red and blue. Because of the heavily worn surfaces it is very difficult to suggest a family or origin for the pendant.

A cast copper alloy heraldic harness pendant of medieval date (c.1300-1500). It is shield shaped with an intact suspection loop at the top. The design is worn but the pendant can be described in heraldic terms as checky from the fess down, with four larger rectangles above, across the chief. The back is undecorated with some corrosion. There are some remains of enamel within the checky, though this could either have been red originally, or could have altered due to corrosion. Dimensions: weight 7.45g, length 39mm (inc loop), width (at broadest point) 23mm, thickness 1mm A si…

Copper alloy cruciform harness pendant dating from the medieval period, probably c. 13th-14th century AD. The object survives intact and in fair condition except for the suspension loop which would have extended outwards from one of the arms. The object is a cruciform mount/pendant with four arms and a flat, square centre. The arms terminate in circular mouldings and are plain whilst the central block was decorated with incised or moulded cross-hatching. The artefact may have been a harness pendant in its own right, similar to WAW-F47A11 or else, the centre of harness pendant which…
