Large rim sherd/vessel fragment of a Roman grey ware or black burnished ware vessel, probably dating from the 2nr or 3rd century AD. The sherd is in very good condition. The vessel was made from a grey fabric with few sandy inclusions an the edges are still fairly sharp. There is no decoration on the outside and it was probably plain, unless it had the crisscross decoration on its shoulders which is typical for BB1 or BB2 Roman pottery.

Possibly a fragment of a copper alloy slide bolt of Roman date. The slide bolt is rectangular in plan and cross section with a central openwork panel consisting of six tessellated triangular perforations, now damaged and incomplete. The complete panel would have been flanked by two protruding bars. One bar extended perpendicularly from one edge of the openwork panel on one side. The second would have run parallel to the panel.
A similar example is illustrated in Crummy p.124, no.4136 in which it is stated that slide bolts worked as a key to "raise the tumblers engaged in the bolt…

Probably a cast copper-alloy harness fitting (toggler or dangler) dating from the Roman or medieval period, that is c. AD43-1500. The item is extremely worn and all surfaces are very smooth. It is, however, in very good condition. It appears to be a tear-shaped dangler or toggle, possibly with a moulded teardrop or petal at the bottom which is why it was thought that it may be a Roman-British dangler or toggle. The top of the loop is extremely worn with evidence of metal-on-metal wear clearly visible as the top of the loop is worn thin and there are now grooves of wear on the inside.
