Probably a late medieval forgery of a silver penny of Henry V (AD1413-1422) or Henry VI (AD1422-61; 1470-71) dating from the 15th century. York ecclesiastical mint. Legend is incoherent and blundered. The marks next to the crown indicate a copy of Henry V issue but the annulet and trefoil stops in the legend are of Henry VI and it is possible the forger could have taken the marks of existing coins still in circulation and just copied them all onto this coin. A complete Late Medieval silver hammered penny of King Henry VI (AD 1422-1461, 1470-1471), of the Annulet Issue dating to AD 1422 to c.1430. Minted at Calais. See North, 1991, II, p. 74, no. 1432. Obverse: Crowned bust of king facing. Obverse inscription: +hEnRICVS [REX] AnGLIE. Reverse: Long cross pattee quartering. Three pellets in each quarter. Annulets in two quadrants at the centre of the pellets. Reverse inscription: VIL / LA : CAL / [...] It measures 17.38mm in diameter, 1.58mm in thickness, and weighs 0.82g. Die axis: 9 o'clock.
