Large, heavy cast cu-alloy object, probably a Roman lever, dating from c. AD43-410. The object is hollow cast and of roughly long cylindrical shape which tapers outwards from top to bottom. It is enclosed at both ends and has a square protuberance on the top. There are two parallel oblong perforations cut out of the body of the cylinder, close to the top. Linear decoration is visible close to- and on the bottom end itself. This end has been damaged in antiquity. The artefact looks complete and it seems to have been a heavy-duty object rather than decorative. It is possible that it is …

It is sub triangular in section with what would have originally have been bright blue enamel lozenges along the apex . The recess for the headstud is intact and it would have been attached by a rivet. At the base, the foot is missing. A concave recess suggests that this was also a separate stud which is now missing. The catch plate and the base of the bow are missing. The length is 22mm and the thickness12mm.

Very worn rim sherd, probably of a vessel dating from the late Roman period, i.e. c. AD200-410. It seems to be a rim fragment from a local oxidised coarse ware vessel. All surfaces are heavily abraded. It was made from light/cream-coloured earthenware with some finer but mostly medium-sized quarzite inclusions. The rim has a small ledge curving towards the inside of the vessel. The outside is decorated with a faint, worn zig-zag pattern in the upper part and the surface of the vessel has been brushed after a slip of slightly darker cream-colour was applied.
