Copper alloy suspension piece from a steelyard (known as a statera ). The length is 54mm and the width is 8mm. The suspension piece shares similarities with LIN9BE123, LINEA28B6 AND LIN79A1E4 on the PAS database.
The iron steelyard is held by the hook at the top and an object is hung from the double hook on the left. The lead weight is moved along the arm until the steelyard is balanced. The weight of the object is read from the marks on the arm. A similar example is in the British Museum collections ref: P&EE 1935 10-28 1.
