Copper alloy circular, domed, hollow backed, mount. Approximate diameter of central perforation is 16mm. The central perforation is made up of what appears to be a separate piece of formed copper alloy inserted into the outer body, and defined by a concentric groove. The purpose of the object is unclear. It may be an incomplete Post Medieval (dating to between c1550 and c1850 AD) horse boss, similar to CORN-887597, PUBLIC-5D86D4, PUBLIC-5E3C77, and YORYM-023666. It may also be an element of a post medieval door handle or knob with a date of c1650 to c1900 AD. The diameter is 37mm, …

Copper alloy decorated disc, probably a post medieval mount of some kind. It has broken into two parts. Possibly a Roman or post-medieval lid, but there is no evidence of hinge or handle (DENO-9058F5 is also missing these but is smaller and incomplete). Another possibility is a bridle boss (eg CPAT-EC4CA7). One side has abraded raised decoration consisting of a central boss, then a band of raised beads, then a band of a possible cable motif, then another band of beads. On the other side there is a raised lip near the edge, this has three 'steps' in it. Nearer the centre there is a low…

Post Medieval lead alloy lion mount, probably originally from decorative outdoor leadwork like a cistern, fountain, or rainhead. It is heavily cast and hollow backed. The outer face takes the form of a maned lion standing facing left with its right front paw resting on a sphere, probably a globe of the world. There is no trace of a finish like gilding or silvering that might suggest an indoor use. Probably dates to between c1540 and c1800 AD. The diameter length is 1000mm, width 660mm, thickness 18mm, and the weight is 568.8g.

A Post Medieval lead alloy fragment probably of a ceiling mount in the shape of stylised flowers dating 1500-1550AD. The surviving fragments have been cast in the form of flowers in high relief; the back is flat. There are no traces of gilding visible but there are traces of blue, red and yellow paint. . Egan illustrates ceiling mounts (2005:69-70 no. 309) which he dates 1500-1550 based on ceramic dating of context. Egan notes that similar mounts have been found at Clarendon Palace, Wiltshire, Eltham Palace, Kent and at the sites of several other prestigious houses. They were int…
