Unusual lead alloy mount of unknown date and period it appears to be in the form a medal decorated with a swastika. The stamped cross is more consistent with a later Medieval style, suggesting it dates to the 12th to 16th Centuries AD. The pendant is a mid grey in colour, with an even surface patina. A direct parallel for this find has not been located at the time of recording. The swastika, the 'crux gammatica' (a cross formed from 4 Greek capital gamma characters) was widely used long before the Christian period, possibly in pagan religious contexts. It did however continu…

On the reverse is a coronation scene with the Queen sitting in the coronation chair while the crown in placed on her head by the Archbishop, she has attendants and others around her. The front is decorated with an incuse design of a man in periwig and frock coat, facing right, holding a baton. The legend is very worn. A silver service medal from World War 1, awarded to Pte. Nicholas Farnworth, 24391, which is inscribed on the rim of the medal. This silver medal was awarded to officers and men of the British and Imperial Forces who either entered a theatre of war (an area of active fighting) or served overseas (perhaps as a garrison soldier) between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918 inclusive. The ribbon would have had a central band of orange edged with white, black and blue lines and although many other medal ribbons symbolise something, it seems that the colour and pattern of the British War…
