Four disc lead seal, traces of gilding. One of the main discs has a wheel-like device with a crown and a series of initials between the spokes - H A e Ca [R]. The other main disc has suffered more corrosion but shows a shield and probably a version of the company's heraldry - the arms of England and Scotland joined together and with a fish to the right at the top, all over a large globe.

Late Medieval lead seal, of cloth seal form. One end disc is provided with a rivet and the other holed. The two discs are joined to the each other by a means of a thin connecting strip of metal. The seal has been folded over, but no cloth survives between the two discs. The imprint of the seal shows the year 1652 or 1659 and root vegetables (turnips or radishes). The obverse inscription reads 'GARTNER D C S V (?) [?]' and it is likely that this seal was attached to a sack or bag of vegetables.

Cast lead seal of cloth seal type with a central hole. Shows evidence of being bent in the middle. Late Medieval/Early Post-Medieval in date. Only one half of the seal remains but a segment of the lead strap which would have connected the other half - the riveted lead disc - is visible. The hole in this remaining half would have accomodated the connecting rivet. None of the cloth survives. The decoration on the seal is weak and worn. Markings do show a figure '9', the letter 'S' and depictions of root vegetables- possibly beetroot, turnip or radishes- indicating that the bag co…

Post Medieval cast copper alloy bag or bale seal. Complete circular seal with two circular discs and the folded attachment loop. One disc has what appears to be an apple tree with a picket fence over it and three pellets to is left. It is either a debased or early form of the pinecone surmounted by a border. The other side has a central circular depression, over which is an A in relief with no apparent annulets. Dates to between c1500 and c1700 AD. The only parallels on the database are lead or lead alloy, not copper alloy. It may be that the copper alloy signifies a higher quality ma…

Late post medieval Russian cast lead or lead alloy flax seal, probably eighteenth century in date and heavily worn. Probably relating to the import of flax from the Baltic to the Fylde. Two holes have been passed bottom to top though the seal. The sealing cord would have passed through the holes. Relief inscriptions on both sides. The NO:9 on the obverse refers to the length of fabric measured in Dutch els. The inspection date on the reverse is incomplete but appears to be either 1775 or 175? AD. An incomplete post-Medieval lead alloy two-disc cloth seal (c. 1500-c. 1650).
The seal is formed by two circular discs, one with a hole in the centre and the other with a stud protruding. These discs are joined by an integral connecting strip which is folded in half so the discs over-lay each other, and the stud protrudes through the hole. The seal is then stamped on the discs creating a design on both faces. The design has worn smooth but may have related to the heraldic badge of the city of Augsburg a stylised pine cone.
These seals are from linen warp, cotton weft fabrics t…
