Small Roman Trumpet type brooch. Pierced lug at the back of the oval head which is bent sharply backwards. Projection at the top of the head. Spring gear and pin missing. Triple moulded waist bead extends around the back of the bow but is flattened at the back. The detail of the moulding is lost due to wear. Straight slightly tapering leg. Triangular catchplate complete. Flattened bead moulding at foot.

Incomplete Wirral type brooch dating from the Roman period: Circular lead, edge damaged. It is decorated with a transverse ridge and regular incised lines. The upper side of the bow is divided into three rectangular panels down to the mid bow. Inlaid with enamel in squares - only three cells survive. There is an extension at the mid bow. Below the lower bow tapers to a missing foot. The hinged pin and the copper alloy axis bar is secured in pierced lugs.

2nd century Romano-British disc brooch with Celtic-inspired triskele design (comp. Hattatt 2000, no. 120, p. 344). It was made from cast cu-alloy and decorated with dark blue and white(?) enamel. Part of the spring coil and the catch plate are still in place, but the pin is missing. It is possible that both spring coil and pin were made from iron (as dark red corrosion suggests). The obverse of the brooch is decorated with triskele motif that was filled in with dark blue enamel. Copper-alloy, Roman headstud brooch, possibly 3rd century, although heavily corroded. The headstud is pirform shape and integrally cast, and the wings and neckband would have supported a head loop which is recently broken. An incomplete Roman copper-alloy disc brooch dating to between c75 and c410 AD. The brooch is circular, one face has a raised external rim, a second raised rim 5mm from the edge, and a circular boss in the centre. The perimeter band retains possible remnants of the wire used to delineate cells of enamel. The centre probably contained a dome shaped piece of coloured glass or a semi precious stone. Part of a two piece copper alloy trumpet brooch, typical of the early British versions produced in the 2nd half of the first century AD. (Collingwood group R (i)) The bow is diamond shaped in profile, but with rounded mid-bow triple flange and ridged cylindrical foot knob decoration and solid catch plate. Fragment of an unusual Trumpet headed bow brooch. At the head, the rear face of the trumpet seems to be cast in the shape of a coiled spring with a hole for an axis bar which holds the remains of the pin, (See the example given by Hattatt, diag. 83, fig 45 in Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, Hattat, p108), although the rest of the pin is missing, as is the catch plate and foot. Roman copper alloy headstud brooch fragment. What remains is the intersection of the bow and the crosspiece. The stump of the headstud and the base of the suspension loop are also visible. It is probable that the bow, and possibly the wings and the stud, were decorated with enamel cells. Dates from between c75 and c200 AD. The length is 25mm, the width is 16mm, thickness 11mm, and the weight 7.17g. For similar, more complete, examples see YORYM-C17EC4, NLM-DCAD20, NMS-A36126, and LANCUM-EE6072 amongst many others.

A cast copper alloy dolphin brooch dating to the Roman period. The object is a hinged example. The wings are tubular and semi-circular in cross-section with a raised stop-ridge at either end. Cast copper alloy mount inlaid with enamel dating from the Roman period, c. 1st-4th century AD. The mount is small and very worn - it may have been the centre of a brooch or the head of a button and loop fastener but it is too worn to be certain. It may have been circular once but now it is oval or eye-shaped, with a worn back and front. There is still some enamel present, however: Between two concentric moulded rings are a blue centre and a red enamelled ring. There may have been further moulded rings, but not enough of the body survives to be certain.

The brooch has an oval plate with a central, oval setting for a black glass pyramidal boss on the front face. The section between the boss and the outer edge is decorated with a series of patterned lines. Possibly a large fragment of a Roman Wirral type brooch dating from the early Roman period, that is c. AD43-200. Only the bow and head remain, most of the pin rest, foot and pin are missing. The surface of the brooch is very worn and no trace of enamel or moulded decoration remains. The general shape and outline suggests a humped rectangular cross-section and a rounded head. The spring mechanism was hinged.
