A blade is an elongated flake that was detached from a core-the rule of thumb being more than twice as long as it is wide. Blades were often modified and mounted in handles or hafts.
This blade, dating to the Mesolithic period, is grey in colour, with almost half the cortex remaining on the dorsal face.It is blunt at one end and rounded at the other. There are several flaking scars and the edges are well worked. It measures 51.28mm x 14.67mm and weighs 3.16g.

A blade is an elongated flake that was detached from a core-the rule of thumb being twice as long as it is wide. Blades were often modified and mounted in handles or hafts. This small flint blade, dating to the Mesolithic period, is milky brown in colour, with some creamy speckling. It is rectangular in shape and broken at one corner. It appears to have been retouched. It measures 40.78mm x 20.15mm x 4.84mm and weighs 2.6g.
These flints form part of a large antiquarian collection of general surface finds. It consists of lithic implements and associated waste flakes. The collection i…

A small flint blade made from a pale greyish brown flake. It shows evidence of a bulb of percussion and concoidal ripples on the ventral side while the dorsal side has two largely parallel dorsal ridges converging at the proximal end where a flake has been removed along the middle. The distal end has been snapped off in antiquity and there is a very small area of cortex remaining towards this end. All edges show evidence of reworking. All surfaces are crazed across their entire area which may be the result of heating or freezing.

Mesolithic to early Neolithic tertiary pale grey flint blade. Retouch to both mesals, possibly for use as a small knife. Very fine parallel semi-abrupt and short retouch on one edge, random short semi-acute to semi-parallel on the other. Dates from c10,000 to c3500 BC.
The length is 22mm, width 9mm, thickness 3mm, and the weight is 0.50g.

Mesolithic to Neolithic black chert blade on a tertiary flake. The chert at the proximal end is a mid grey. The dorsal ridge has been reduced, probably while on the core. There are areas of wear gloss, particularly on the ventral face at the distal end and in the middle of the dorsal ridge. It is extensively retouched on the mesals and the distal. The wear gloss pattern suggests that pressure was applied on the dorsal ridge and the tool's main working area was the distal. It may have served as a plane or chisel. Dates between c10,000 and c2500 BC, but probably early Mesolithic.

Fragment of a copper alloy blade from a small sword or knife probably mid to late Bronze Age 1500 - 800BC as material of a similar date has previously been found in the vicinity. Such a small fragment is difficult to securely identify; it is possibly a Wilburton type from the Late Bronze Age or perhaps a riveted dagger or rapier. The fragment is roughly rectangular with a central ridge and two cutting edges both broken. The top and bottom edges are straight breaks, the patina suggests these are old. In cross section the piece has a central oval ridge from which it tapers in a straight…
