A silver Roman denarius of Julia Domna (AD 193-217) dating to the period c.AD 193-196 (Reece Period 10). VENER[I] VICT reverse type depicting Venus, draped, standing left, raising up right hand holding apple and holding sceptre in left hand. Eastern Mint (Emesa or Laodicea). RIC IV.1, p. 176, nos. 630-631 The coin has a diameter of 17.6mm, Thickness 2.3mm and Weight 2.00g. When found it was encrusted with a hard, black, tar-like substance.

An early-medieval silver Carolingian denier of Charles the Bald (AD 840-77) or later, monogram/METVLLO type dating from the AD 860s-c.925, mint: Melle, France. Weight 1.52g, Diam 20.9mm, Thickness 1mm. Ref: Coupland 2015: 70, 75. The coin is in overall good condition but has a small tear at the top of the coin. On the obverse the bottom of this is crescent shaped and possibly slightly lifted from the surface suggesting that this tear resulted from the testing - pecking - of the coin to check its quality.
