Silver penny of John Baliol (1292-1296), first coinage. Obverse has the bust facing left hold a sceptre and the legend IOhAN[NES DE]I GRA. The coin has been double struck. The reverse has a long cross with a 6-pointed mullet, or star, in each quarter and the legend +REX [SCOT]ORVM. Probably struck in Berwick. See Spink 2003, 20 No. 5065. A small piece of the coin has broken off, but survives. Diameter: 19mm; thickness: 0.91mm; weight: 1.2g
