A complete, albeit worn and clipped, post-medieval silver hammered half groat of King James I (AD 1603-1625), probably of the First Coinage dating to AD 1603-1604. The coin has been clipped around the edges slightly. See North, 1991, II, p. 144, no. 2076.
Obverse: Crowned bust of king facing right - worn. Roman numeral II behind.
Obverse inscription: I D G ROSA SINE SPINA.
Reverse: Squared quartered shield bearing the royal coat of arms.
Reverse inscription: No inscription.
It measures 17.21mm in diameter, 0.88mm in thickness, and weighs 0.71g.
