Large fragment of a post-medieval silver head-dress pin of the bodkin type. The bodkin is broken at the upper end across the opening and the tip is missing. The cross-section in the upper part is hexagonal, with two broad and two pairs of two very narrow faces. The section rapidly changes to sub-rectangular, with broad flat faces and two narrow, slightly convex sides. On both sides below the aperture it displays the same decoration: a box between two horizontal lines. A Post Medieval silver dress pin of bodkin type, sub-rectangular in cross section, c. 17th century AD. The bodkin is broken at the upper section at the point where an aperture is beginning to open and is bent. On one side below the aperture are a series of punched dots (pointille) in the form of the letters 'E' and 'M' (initials), followed by a dotted star. On the reverse there is a stamped maker's marks, however, this is illegible. There is no other decoration other than some scratches and lines probably resulting from damage. Complete, slightly bent silver bodkin (head-dress pin). The overall shape of the bodkin is an elongated rectangle in plan and sub-rectangular in section, with slightly convex sides and tapers towards a pointed terminal end, the last 25mm of which is bent 90° from the rest of the shaft. The bodkin has two openings, one at the wider end which is circular and 2mm in diameter. The other opening is approximately 10mm further along the shaft and is longitudinal and 12mm long by 2mm wide.
