Object type: RING
Broad period: MODERN
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Published
Small ring made from plaited silver wire. Hand-made. Rings of this type have been examined at the British Museum, where the opinion was tentatively given that they may be 19th century cane ferrules. However, possible parallels include Viking dome-shaped mounts formed of interwoven silver wire, and a ring from the 'scourge' in the ninth-century Trewhiddle hoard.

Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MODERN
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Possibly the silver frame of a late 18th century seal matrix or 'fob seal'. The frame is very fragile-looking, with half of it broken off (breaks visible on the reverse). The frame was made from silver wire with a clear front and back. It appears that half of it is missing, with all four strands being held together by the 'silver binding' at the top. The bottom loops would have been soldered or attached to the fob seal or swivel seal matrix.

Object type: DENTAL IMPLEMENT
Broad period: MODERN
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete and misshapen silver dental plate, probably of Modern date (c. 1825-c. 1950). The plate is complete but there is slight damage along the edges. It is crescent-shaped with a semi-circular cut-out where it would have been hinged on the wearer's surviving tooth/teeth, possibly his canine/front molar on the lower right or upper left. There are no spikes or any other surviving pins for holding any artificial porcellain teeth, but instead, there are 13 small circular drilled holes/perforations which may have been the locations for the artificial teeth.

A silver service medal from World War 1, awarded to Pte. Nicholas Farnworth, 24391, which is inscribed on the rim of the medal. This silver medal was awarded to officers and men of the British and Imperial Forces who either entered a theatre of war (an area of active fighting) or served overseas (perhaps as a garrison soldier) between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918 inclusive. The ribbon would have had a central band of orange edged with white, black and blue lines and although many other medal ribbons symbolise something, it seems that the colour and pattern of the British War…

A complete silver and enamel ring. It has a circular band which is in split at the back, so that it can be adjusted to fit. The bezel is oval, and enamelled in shades of blue and white with an image of a parachute and the words PARACHUTIST U S ARMY on it. USA is also engraved in the sides of the band as they meet the bezel. It was found near a station for the US Army in World War II, and is reminiscent of the 'class ring' that is popular amongst American students.
The image falls below the required standard and will be replaced as soon as possible.

A silver medallion, possibly issued by a Church group. It is round with an elaborate, partially openwork pattern around the edge, composed of fleur-de-lys and art deco style divided triangles. The suspension loop is still in place. The solid circular centre is engraved with initials, possibly CEH. The rear is plain except for lettering - firstly WCSSC, which presumably are the initials of the body that awarded the medallion. It is hallmarked with an anchor, lion and a date mark of x or z. This is the mark for Birmingham for either 1922/3 or 1924/5, which would …
