Cast copper alloy unlooped palstave axe probably dating to the Middle Bronze Age palstave 1300 to 1150BC. The axe is of unusual form and shares similarities with the Taunton metalwork assemblage and Hotham related to the palstaves of the Acton Park metalwork assemblage to which it bears some resemblance similar to Needham et al fig 140 (1985) and Read (1995: p.3 fig 9 )dated 1200BC. An incomplete cast copper-alloy Bronze Age copper alloy chisel probably a broken tang. The object is flat and rectangular in plan. The upper end has suffered an old break and is very worn. The fragment is ovoid in section towards the break and expands slightly in width at the centre. From this expansion, the lower section is triangular in section and tapers to a point which is rounded in plan. Small piece of medium hard black stone, possibly jet or a Scottish pitch. It leaves a black mark when drawn across paper. There is a series of three parallel lines on one face, there is a chance that these may be artificial. A small piece of possible jet/shale debitage (LANCUM 585BA4) was found next to this jet/pitch. These may have come from a burial unearthed in the near vicinity in the antiquarian period. Measures 18x13x10mm. Dates between c2500BC & c800BC.

Small piece of abraded possible Bronze Age jet or shale debitage. Less than 0.1grm in weight. The stone leaves a medium brown mark when drawn across paper. The dorsal surface has a triangular flake off from the proximal end, and another down one edge that runs to the distal. The other edge seems to have had two flakes struck off it. There appears to have been at least two flakes struck off the distal end, producing a point. A complete cast copper alloy socketed axe of Late Bronze Age date (1000 - 800 BC). The object can be classified as the Ewart Park phase of metalwork. The object is sub-rectangular in plan with the cutting edge expanding outwards to form a convex cutting edge. The socket has a sub square mouth, is deep and the insides are smooth. A moulded collar decorates the axe below the mouth on each face. Extending down from this are three raised ribs. The ribs have been abraded and damaged in recent times. An incomplete cast copper alloy dagger dating from the Early Bronze Age, c.2150-c.1500BC. The object is a butt riveted small blade dagger or knife with triangular blade. The blade would have been attached to the hilt by means of three large rivets, the top side one is still in place. The rivet is circular in cross-section and flat-hourglass-shaped in plan. The other two are missing and the other rivet holes are incomplete due to breaks or possibly corrosion. A complete small copper alloy socketed and side-looped spearhead dating from the Early Middle Bronze Age, c. 1600-1400BC. The head is leaf-shaped and the socket has a pronounced midrib. The tip of the spearhead is thicker than the rest of the blade and there are very fine, very clear re-sharpening marks all around the edges of the wings, running parallel to it. There is no noticeable patination. Retouched on most edges. Very few worked agate tools have been discovered on the western side of the Pennines. The scraper, or possibly the raw stone as either a core or nodule, probably originated in Northumberland where agate is more widely utilised to fabricate lithic utensils. The retained limestone cortex on the proximal end exhibits quite a high degree of wear, and there is wear gloss on most of the chert. There is sub-parallel, semi-short, abrupt retouch to the shorter of the tool's mesals. The butt is quite boxy but the stop and side flanges appear fused. One side of the cutting blade (the innermost side in the image) is more reduced than the other side. It has not been possible to determine wether this is due wear or damage. There is also some damage to the butt. The axe head dates from c1600 to c1200 BC. The length is 165mm, width 52mm, and the weight is 385g.
