Copper alloy, Bronze Age palstave axe, mostly complete. The cutting edge is slightly concave, although the blade tips and blade facet do not appear visable. There is a highly defined flange, and septum. The edges have no evidence of casting which shows that this axe has been work to a high degree. Neither do the edges have a nick, the blade side and flange side smooth, only tapering out to the blade. The butt of the palstave has been damaged, and little if none of the original edge remains. The patina is a greeny brown, a shiny smooth layer remains on most of the palstave, possibly in…

A complete late Bronze Age copper alloy socketed axe with a large single loop on one side. It has some wear and damage on the cutting edge, but otherwise the surface condition is good. The socket is square although irregular, and also contains a bronze gouge wedged inside it. The loop has a lozenge-shaped section and extends directly below the single mouth moulding. The sides curve gently to a slightly expanded blade, which has a curved cutting edge. Casting seams are present on both sides of the axe. There are hammer marks close to the cutting edge. The width at the socket is 48 mm, …

Incomplete cast cu-alloy socketed side-looped spearhead dating to the Middle Bronze Age. The spearhead is comparatively small and complete except for a large portion of the socket which is missing. Only the upper halves of the two small side loops remain. The surface is pitted and the edges look worn. It is heavily patinated. The spearhead is likely to belong to the Acton Park 2, Taunton (Cemmaes) or Penard metalwork assemblage, corresponding to Needham’s (1997) Period 5, c. 1500-1150BC. The spearhead was likely to have been short and similar to Savory (1980) nos. 227 – 230, which …

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Solid cast cu-alloy ring, possibly dating from the Later Bronze or Iron Age or the Roman period, i.e. c. 1000BC-AD410. The ring is simple without any decoration. It was cast in a two-piece mould and not made from a bent cu-alloy rod. The surface is very smooth and the file marks from the filing of the inner casting seam are almost obliterated. There are no longer any indications of casting seams or file marks on the outside. The ring is in very good condition with a chocolate-brown patina and there is only very little stippling/pitting on the outer surface. Cu-alloy rings such as this …

Tip of cast cu-alloy spearhead, very probably dating from the Middle or Late Bronze Age, i.e. 1500-800BC. Because of the size of the fragment, it is very difficult to say if the fragment dates from the Middle of Late Bronze Age. The surface shows a dark green patina, with patches of brown/red. The size and shape of the socket is unknown. The midrib seems to be of almost square or diamond-shaped cross-section. Find not seen by FLO; images kindly supplied by finder. Exact masurements and weight unknown (measurements below estimated from image).

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast cu-alloy flat axehead dating from the Early Bronze Age, ie. c. 2150-1700/1500BC. The axe is very worn and not much of the blade and the original surface survives. The blade is crescent-shaped and so is the butt end (albeit being much narrower). This flat axe probably belonged to Needham's Brithdir or Willerby metalwork assemblage of the Early Bronze Age.
