A silver sixpence of James I of England. It has possibly been folded, perhaps as a love token, which practice seems to have been maintained over a long period of time. The obverse face is very worn, and the legend largely illegible. The reverse carries a shield and the legend reads QVAE_______NEMO SEPARET, as well as the date 1605 Dimensions: 2.4mm diameter and weighs 2.67g. Thanks to the finder for the photographs

Pierced, worn, hammered, silver, James I (1603-1625), Irish harp, sixpence - Ist issue. The position of the piercing, a little off centre, indicated that the coin was highly unlikely to have been turned into a pendant. If suspended from the piercing, neither the obverse nor the reverse would be upright. It is therefore highly unlikely to have been used as a pendant or ornament. It is more likely that the perforation allowd a cord to be passed through the coin to deter theft. As such it would not qualify as treasure. Dating from 1603 to 1607. Diameter is 24mm.
