An incomplete copper alloy buckle and hollow plate. A one piece moulding forms the loop and the front of the plate, another moulding is attached to form the underplate. The loop is non-symmetrical ovoid in plan, flattening along both long sides and has a 'frame' moulded in all the way around, but not at the plate. At this point the 'frame' continues around the plate. There is a suggestion of the outside edge of the loop being kidney shaped. The plate itself is square, with a shape resembling a saltire moulded into the top plate. The saltire is formed of f…

A copper alloy coin; probably a contemporary copy of a Roman nummus dating from AD 300 - 400. Originally thought to be a styca, closer inspection suggests that the visible part of the design is a crude forward facing figure, with a cross on the right, rather than the central cross and surrounding letters that would be expected on a styca. Post Medieval lead alloy dome shaped probable weight. It has been cast in a mould made by the first joint of someone's thumb, the imprint of the nail still being visible. Possibly an incomplete suspended weight that was originally intended to have some form of trapped loop in the cavity in the base. Alternatively it may always have been intended as a standing weight, possibly for a balance scale pan, or just someone having a bit of fun. Probably dates to between c1100 and c1750 AD. The height is 21mm, width is 21mm, thickness 17mm, and the weight 44.71g.
