Probably a cast copper strap mount also called a 'pressure tectonic' dating from the late Iron Age or early Roman period, that is c. 100BC-AD200. The artefact is nearly complete and in very good condition. It is of roughly triangular shape with a flat top and three large spikes on the underside. One of the points of the triangle terminates in a break, but there is no further damage or breakages on the other side. Opposite the break, the other two points of the triangle terminate in two ornamental knops with carved or incised crosses on the circular tops. Below, the copper alloy is qui…

Iron axehead, possibly Late Iron Age but more likely Post-Medieval or modern. If it did date from the LIA, it would be a very rare Lancashire find indeed. The object is heavily corroded, but the socket and blade are still readily recognisable. Early Iron Age axes were made from forged, not wrought iron and it was difficult to form whole 'sockets' as were known from LBA socketed axes. For iron axes like this the wings needed to be reheated and hammered into the required shape. However, iron axes like this survive only very rarely and since post medieval and some modern tools apply this …

Cast cu-allow arrow head, possibly Early Iron Age. Tip and most of the socket broken off, wings and midrib damaged, but complete. The midrib is unusual in so far that it is square-sectioned (BA midribs of spearhads or arrowheads always have a circular cross-section), but it is most certainly prehistoric since from about 600/500Bc onwards spearheads and arrowheads were no longer made from bronze, but usually iron. However, there is no parallel from the Early Iron Age for an item like this and thus it is quite possible that it is from a later period after all (ie. Roman or Early Medieval).
