Late Medieval to early Post Medieval copper alloy chafing dish handle and lug. The handle is shaped like an inverted openwork letter 'T'. The lug is still attached, with a circular rivet where it would have been attached to the chafing dish. The metal has a dark brown patina. The handle was probably cast as a single piece and finished with a file. The lug piercing appears to have been formed as a notch, then pressed or hammered closed around the handle. It also shows file marks as part of its manufacture. Dates to between c 1400 and c1600 AD. The chafing dish handle is 38 mm long…

A late Medieval to Post Medieval undecorated lead alloy vessel or container, dating from c. AD 1400 - 1600. The vessel is D-shaped in section; being rounded at the front and flat at the back. The vessel is open at the top, and the sides taper towards the closed end. There are no attachment holes or rivets visible, suggesting that the vessel stood on its own rather than being attached to a wall. Copper alloy dog's head of a dog's headed spout dating from the late medieval or early post-medieval period, c. 1400-1550. The spout fragment probably comes of a ewer. The spout is tubular, and terminates in a dog's (or sheep's) head with an open mouth from which the circular spout protrudes. The dog's head is formed of moulded decoration, and has large pointed-oval rounded ears, a squared brow and eyes. The decoration is worn. A similar fixed spout from a pedestal-base ewer can be found illustrated in Lewis (1987, 4-5; fig. 8a). A complete one is recorded under, e.g. BUC-0F3C19.

Rhomboid repair patch/clip from a medieval post-medieval vessel, probably dating from 14th-17th century AD. The clip is made from copper alloy and fairly sturdy. It has been folded over four times to seal the tear in the vessel - then it was hammered flat on the outside with the two ends being folded back on themselves on the inside. Due to its size and sturdiness this is likely to date to the medieval or post-medieval period, but some are earlier, such as examples from Late Saxon contexts at Flixborough (Rogers, N. in Evans and Loveluck 2009, 115-7).

Large handle fragment of a medieval jug dating from the 13th/14th century AD. Only about 1/3 of the handle survives: this is probably the upper third and a small part of the rim or shoulders of the jug. Medieval copper alloy ewer spout, dating to the 15th century. The spout quickly tapers to become tubular with a moulded dogs head decoration on the spout terminal. The dog has upright rectangular slightly fluted ears, its snout and eyes are represented by a concave depression with a circular spout protruding from its open mouth. This is a simple example of a well-known 15th century type; it would originally have been attached to a pedestal-base ewer.

A copper-alloy zoomorphic spout from a Late Medieval laver, ewer, etc. Traces of solder survive on the surfaces of the attachment end, which has a central slot and curves forward into the neck and head of the animal. A cast copper-alloy fragment: possibly a dish support from a late medieval/early post-medieval chafing dish. The object tapers to a point at one end. It has a trapezoidal cross-section and appears to have been broken away from another element at the wider end. The only decorative features are single or double incised girth lines. Bowl and pedestal are about the same depth. The bowl has sloping sides above the carination, and the rim flares out to f…
