A Scottish groat of James V dating from c. AD1526-39. Type III with trefoil stops; minted at Edinburgh. No subdivision possible. Obv: IACOBVS [5 DEI GRA REX SCOT]ORV Rev: OPPI/DV[ E/DINB/VRGI]. NOTE: This find is of importance because these coins are not normally found in English contexts. At that time the groat was worth 1s 6d Scots and had a silver content of 0.833g compared to the English groat which was 0.925g (Carl Savage, PhD student University of York/National Museum Scotland).
