Post Medieval silver shilling of James I (1603-1625) of the Second Coinage, fourth bust. Initial mark escallop (North 2100; Spink 2655), weakness to lower portrait and in corresponding area of reverse. No obvious signs of having been clipped, but has evidence of damage caused by ploughing resulting in a curved dent towards the obverse, Most apparent on the word IACOBVS. Dates from 1606 to 1607 AD. Post Medieval silver coin, probably a William III sixpence, bent into a form commonly known as a love token. The coin appears to have been bent on more than one occasion from different angles, forming a cusp on each side. One of the cusps appears to contain indentations which may have been caused by biting it. Flat spots on the raised edges suggest it continued in circulation after being bent. Dates to between c1694 and c1702 AD. Diameter 19mm and weight 1.6g. Some sources suggest that worn silver coins would often be bent to prove they were not counterfeit, as silver washed…
