They are basically a cylindrical shape but are faceted unevenly on all sides. All of the faces have a pattern of parallel lines on them. Their weight fits neither the Scandinavian nor Dublin Viking unit weight systems, inspite of this similar shaped weights have been found at various sites of the Viking Great Army camps, see Hadley and Richards (2021) and British Museum accession number 2006.1203.104, dated to 9th century AD. Such shapes are also seen on for example pin heads (BM 1985.1101.11), dated to the 'Anglo-Saxon' period, and penannluar bracelet terminals (BM 1921.1101.202), the latter dated to 12th century AD. As there seems to be a lead alloy content, they are most probably a weight.

The cross is formed of a square sections, creating a cross shaped box. The front and back faces are slightly inset into this. On the front is the figure of Christ, clothed in a lion cloth, head hanging to the right with the left leg slightly flexed. The eyes are closed, the hair is long and off the face, which is bearded, although there is no halo. The hands are detailed with the fingers moulded in. This figure is vertically centrally mounted but small so that the head is below the horizontal centre of the cross. Across the top section is an angled banner with the letters INRI (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews) in capital letters. The lower section also has a panel defined by an angled raised section in the moulding. On the rear is a relief of a robed figure with a headdress, hands clasped in prayer, which is probably a representation of Mary. There are also the intials AM - Ave Maria? There is some damage to the long sides which are slightly open. At the bottom of the cross is a spike which suggests that it may have been mounted, perhaps in a wooden block, but there is is also a chain, comprised of two different sized rings, which are associated with it and suggests later modification. The smaller of the rings has a residue which may have been used to fix it to the crucifix.
The box construction of the cross is paralleled in IOW-CB4D95, which is dated to the early modern period, but.the figure on this example is not as fine as the one here. NLM-20A154 is also similar, while the the modern date is attributed to the re-legalisation of Roman Catholic worship in the 19th century.
Dimensions: It is 63mm long, including the spike, the cross is 55mm long and 36mm wide. The copper alloy frame is oval in plan and semicircular in section. The face has two parallel lines around the frame as decoration. The shoulder of the frame is decorated with oblique lines. Above this frame are two semicircular hoops. These are split, forming four arms which are monted on the frame with circular rolls. The arms then meet above the centre of the frame. At the top is a circular mount for fixing to a chain. The whole has been gilded. The seal itself is oval, make of a thick section of a clear material, possibly quartz. Inscrbed in it is a male face in profile, with a neat beard and curled hair. He wears a draped classical robe held with a brooch. There are a number of examples of this type of seal matrix on the database, although they are not all as complete as this, see for example PUBLIC-DC8501 and CORN-E763F2, which are dated to the period 1750-1850
