Small piece of worked flint, very probably a small piece of debitage dating from the late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, i.e. 2500-1500BC, possibly earlier (exact dating of stray finds of flint debitage is very difficult). The piece is small and can be compared to pieces of flint and chert debitage from Anglezarke Moor in Lancashire which was a well-known seasonal flint-working site throughout the Stone and Bronze Age. This flint is of white colour and it is not opaque or translucent. The white colour either suggests that the waste flake either suffered from extreme heat at some point…

Record ID: LANCUM-31DDB7
Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Early Neolithic to early Bronze Age tertiary patinated white flint debitage. Probably a fragment from the proximal end of a discarded blade. There is occasional random short acute retouch to both mesal edges, but nothing that suggests the fragment was reused as a tool. Dates from c4000 to c1600 BC.
The length is 15mm, width 11mm, thickness 5mm, and the weight is 0.81g.
